Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO)



What is EEO?

Equal employment opportunity is the concept of equal opportunity in an organization to achieve or maintain fair employment. The core EEO definition is that all employees should be fairly treated in different decisions on employment such as hiring, promotion, compensation and termination. With the concept of EEO definition, "some opportunities" or "equal opportunities" mentions that employers may not use certain grounds for hiring or recruiting candidates or taking any other employment decisions.


What is the basic principles of EEO?




EEO is the principle that everyone has equal way to pursue a job that is based on merit regardless of characteristics such as sex, race, religion. Equal opportunity for employment law makes it illegally possible for employers to discriminate under certain features. It means employees are entitled to free from race, religion, color, national origin and gender differences.

Any potential employees shall have a right to equal opportunities. Some of them are as follows.

There are several advantages in EEO when an organization follows this process. Mainly improving overall recruitment funnel, increased gender customer satisfaction, increased staff retention, promote employee engagement, more innovation, and strong brand reputation can be mentioned.

EEO is a powerful tool for business process outsourcing (BPO) employees to recognize and attract talent from diverse pool. a diverse workforce can allow BPPOs to respond to the different needs of different customer base.

EEO opportunity creates a peaceful environment which employee would like to work. When employees feel accepted and respected, that will carry over to the customers as improved staff satisfaction and moral increase the sales and performance of the employees.

EEO promotes respect between employer and employee and it is a result of increasing loyalty and engagement of them. Through this scenario, BPOs are in a position to receive a better return on skills investment and to maximize the organizational knowledge.

When we think of disadvantages in EEO, in many organization, EEO has been considered inadequate to simply remove barriers to the work place. Many companies require highly specialized skills that certain groups of people might possess. Even without international discrimination, This can cause a decrease in diversity. Another disadvantage of EEO is that it doesn't come effortlessly. There are many people who suffer from some stereotyping of gender, race, sexual orientation and nationality. 

It is also necessary to see past events and judge people fairly. However it is up to every employer to develop a culture which accepts no discrimination of any kind. This is not only an issue of keeping up. It is important to create and environment that helps people thrive in comfortable working situation.

Why is EEO important?



EEO principles help employees to feel treated and fairly. This promotes other factors in HRM such as improved performance, customer satisfaction, employee engagement etc. So the organizations often found it essential to inspect the workforce of organizations to ensure diversity, in order to encourage and even mandate equal opportunities. EEO is also important as it sets out how people treat themselves at work.
